In the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) Calculation & Labeling Pilot Program, the permission to use the CFP label is granted through the three-step application procedures: (1) Application for Registration of Draft PCR Development Plan, (2) Application for PCR Approval, and (3) Application for CFP Verification.
|
|
1. Application for Registration of Draft PCR Development Plan
A company and/or industrial circles which want to develop a PCR which defines the criteria for the CFP calculation and labeling method applicable to a single product category and have it approved shall submit an "Application Form for Registration of Draft PCR Development Plan" to the secretariat of the CFP Pilot Project (Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry). If the plan is confirmed appropriate, it is registered and released on the website. From that time, a company and/or industry circle develops a draft PCR and applies for the approval of the draft PCR.
A company and/or industrial circles that belong to the supply chain of the target product can register the “Draft PCR Development Plan” and join the discussion to develop the draft PCR. To ensure fairness, it is ideal to have as many participants as possible from related companies in drafting the PCR.

2. Application for PCR Approval
A company and/or industrial circles which request the approval of PCR shall submit the “Draft PCR” developed on the basis of the Draft PCR Development Plan to the secretariat of the CFP Pilot Project with an "Application Form for PCR Approval."
To ensure fairness, public comments about the Draft PCR are collected through this website. If applicable, modifications are made based on the collected comments, and after that, the Draft PCR is reviewed by the PCR Committee.
The Draft PCR approved by the PCR Committee is released on this website as the approved “PCR”. |

3. Application for CFP Verification
A company which requests to use the CFP label shall calculate the CFP and consider its labeling method based on the approved PCR, and shall submit an "Application Form for CFP Verification" to the secretariat of the CFP Pilot Project.
The CFP calculation results and the labeling method are then verified by the PCR Committee. If these are considered appropriate, the permission to use the CFP label is granted to the applicant.
